April Vacation!

april vacation means quilting around here!!! i already completed one baby quilt completely, binding and everything... i think i will set some goals for myself... i would like to piece at least 2 complete tops this week, my pixel palette and maybe my filmstrip quilt... i have several other projects in mind and a few others that have been floundering for the past several months... if i can figure out how to upload my pics on the new laptop, i'll post some pics!

here is a sneak peak of the first quilt that my new quilting friend Kathleen is quilting for me! it is the one block wonder that I worked on last summer.... it looks like it is coming out lovely and i love the inspired idea of using the soft pink for the quilting!!! it looks so pretty even from this small section... Kathleen is offering a half-price deal for quilting from her blog... i posted the link to her offer in my title... i also sent her the honeycomb (can't wait to have that finished) and the bright batiks quilt that i worked on last summer.... so excited to get them back and finish them off.... anyway, it is the weekend and i have a million things to do.... need to get motivated.... i should begin my Christmas stuff soon!!!!! like a few months ago!!!! wish me luck!

well, my shoulder, back, and neck are almost completely healed... but then i came down with a terrible summer cold... i am getting over it quickly, but still haven't managed to get much done... today the girls and i are going boating with my mom and stepdad... that should be fun... first time for the girls ever and first time for me in years.... i'll post pics later...

well, hello there... it has been a few days since i last posted, mostly because i have been in pain and so not sewing... my right shoulder, neck, and back have been sore for a week or so and sewing (god forbid) exacerbates it... unfortunately, i am running out of summer and want to get more accomplished, so... i am going to try to get back to it.... i still have a few quilt patterns that i want to try and some fabrics that i would love to use, so i better get sewing... i also have more books to read, a reunion to host and it's getting down to crunch time... anyway, i need a new boost of motivation (and muscle relaxants)... i did complete kristin's quilt... it is now backed in a luscious tan varigated flannel and is quilted... i hand stitched the binding down a few days ago! yay! i'll have more to report in the next few days... moving on...

last night we had a great summer evening with a dinner on the grill, fresh made fried dough (i made it!) and sparklers.... i managed to pick the best setting (out of like 60) and got some really cool pics... i'll post some here... enjoy! just don't ask about marina's boots... cause i just don't know!!!

well, i've been working on my quilts for the girls... i thought at first that they would be quilte small, even doll-sized... but i had enough of my two main fabrics to make them quite a bit bigger than doll quilts! so, i will have to rework my borders and backing and such, but i think the girls will be happier with quilts they can wrap themselves up in... as of now, they are still in pieces, but here is a pic i took of my work in progress... they are both at the same point in production, so i only took a pic of one of them... i think i like it and i'm quite sure the girls will like them... i believe i wanted to have the bright batiks and both doll quilts (i'm still calling it that since they have dolls on them) by tomorrow night... i can still make it... except maybe the borders... i haven't worked that bit out yet... anyway, happily sewing away my summer days...

quilt show 2009

i went alone and had a lovely time... i did not stay long, as i had no friend to make comments to... i was able to find a black batik that i think works great, but now i am up to my eyeballs in half-square triangles again... i would love to have this quilt top pieced this week... and i still need to get to marina and cadence's... i bought some beautiful fabric that i will post pics of later, but for now... here are a few of my favorites from the show today....

well, i did put away all the laundry... it took from 8am until past noon... then the girls and i had lunch and went to amy's for the afternoon for a playdate!!! then we came home and had dinner... marina and i did some picking up and organizing in the arena, but it needs a lot more work... also, i didn't get to the girls' quilts at all...

it looks like i'm going alone to the quilt show tomorrow... i asked a bunch of friends and everyone was already busy or too far away... jeff is driving home tonight just so i can go, and so i don't feel right making him accompany me... he will go if i really want him to, but i don't think i'll play that card... not only that, i'm not sure if i will even have a babysitter anyway... i'm nervous about driving out there alone, but i know i'll be fine... i'll go by myself, do my own thing, and then come home... i'll let you know how it goes!

i included a pic from last year's camp reunion... i'm looking forward to the 2nd annual camp reunion on the 22nd... we had a great time last year and this year will have even more people... can't wait!!!

well, i don't think marina and cadence's christmas quilt tops will be done by tomorrow night... i sort of have plans to put away laundry and clean up the arena (my sewing room/ weight room/ playroom/ storage area)... if i'm lucky i will have a chance to start them, but who knows... the other two projects will take a LONG TIME!!! i am, however, done with as much piecing as possible on the bright batiks quilt top... so, i'm doing well on that one... i just have to find that perfect black batik at the quilt show.... also, i'm hoping that tab will still be accompanying me to the quilt show on sunday... she and curtis have some family stuff going on, so i understand if she decides not to go, but then i have to figure out someone else to come with me! i won't go alone, and i won't not go, so that leaves me finding someone else at the last minute, but, who wouldn't want to go??? i mean, besides jeff, who went with me to a quilt show before in nh and he really liked it... but he has said that he doesn't want to go... i'll figure something out... hmmm, i don't think i'll bother uploading my newest pic of the bright batiks... the color is not great, so... here is a pic of a quilt show...

here are a few pics of me snuggling with my girls to start another wonderful day!!! the girls are now at lisa's and i can sew all day if i want to!!! or i suppose i could do more laundry, more dishes, and more cleaning... we'll see how the day goes... i am a bit tired of making half-square triangles already! i'd like to have as much of this quilt done by sunday as possible... still hoping to find the perfect black batik at the quilt show!

as far as marina and cadence's christmas quilt, well, it is still in the planning stages... i almost feel like i am in a slump since i was able to finish like 6 quilt tops in 2 weeks, but then i remember that most of them were already at least partially pieced... and when my sewing machine started acting up, i needed to take a break anyway... i'm still working hard and sewing a lot... i'm happy...

these two pics were taken during our picnic/outing to marshall point lighthouse yesterday... despite the rain we had a very nice day! (the girls picked their own outfits!!!)

today is the day that i, well, um... do some stuff... not sure what yet... i have cleaning, laundry, and dishes to do... i've completed cutting my batiks for my bright batik quilt... well, i think i have anyway... still won't piece it until after sunday... hopefully i find that perfect black batik to complete the project...

i should get to work on the girls' christmas paperdoll quilts, but i think i better clean first... the house is showing signs of neglect due to excessive and obsessive sewing!!!

i wanted a post a few more pics of my batiks where the color is more "true"... they are very bright... i've cut about 30 of them (and need 10+ more)... the challenge now will be setting them up in a way that i find pleasing...

i've also "fussy-cut" out several paperdolls for marina and cadence's christmas quilts... still not sure about a pattern/set-up for the fabrics... i've given my sewing machine a break for a few days... i hope (although, i don't expect) that the beeping has stopped... keep everything crossed for me...

i did not finish rereading 1984 yet, but i am in the throws of it, so it won't be long... i'll keep you posted...

blessedly lucky...

a conversation with an old friend on saturday reminded me that i have been blessed in my circumstances all my life... disregarding a few little things here and there, i've always had a wonderful, supportive, loving family, great opportunities, loyal friends, and a comfortable life. i am eternally thankful and joyful... that being said, one of the things i am thankful for and joyful about is summer vacation!!! i've been able to do a ton of sewing so far and plan to continue the trend... i took sunday "off" for the most part, just enjoying some relaxation with my family...

i did begin cutting the pieces for my bright batiks quilt... i'm going to put a deadline of next friday (oh my gosh, that will be july 31st already!!!) on that project, mostly because i'm still not entirely happy with my black batik and thought i might find something better at the quilt show in augusta this coming weekend... also, i'd like to have a plan in place today for marina and cadence's doll quilts for christmas... i'll give myself a 'this saturday' deadline on those...

aren't those girls so adorable??? they are paperdolls from the 1890's - 1900's from what i understand... my girls love playing with paperdolls especially when grandmummy comes over... very sweet.

well, the one block wonder is done with borders... i'm very happy with it and surprised at how big it turned out!!! i think in the end, it turned out quite lovely... it will be awhile before it gets quilted...

i'm now working on my mermaid wallhanging/throw (not sure how big it will end up)... it has been on a mini design wall for about 14 months... so, today, i am putting it together... here is a pic of it on the wall... maybe i'll have another update later...

well, i've been working on piecing my one block wonder today... mostly because i need my design wall for my bright batiks quilt... besides, it has been hanging there for a long time... i still have three borders to add, maybe tonight, maybe not... i also want to finish up my small mermaid wallhanging (or throw) because that has been in progress for about a year...

jeff is in ny for the weekend... i should get a lot done...

this quilt is giving me some trouble... it is "ruffly"... probably because the fabric is super thin and EVERYTHING is cut on the bias... i hope it will be ok... "it will quilt out..."

i have finally finished piecing the top of the honeycomb quilt!!!! i have been working on it for more than 2 years, i think.... i have the back all ready, but i won't be quilting it for a while... for now i am just happy that the top is pieced and the back is ready to go... here is a pic!!!

i like how the border came out with the blocks "tumbling off" the edges... very happy with it...

now, before i begin another sewing project... i think i better clean the house!!!!

harry potter and kristin's quilt...

ok, so, i went to see harry potter at midnight... and i was disappointed... i had just finished rereading the book, so obvioulsy my expectations were high... they left out a ton (i know they have to in order to fit it into 2 and a half hours) but so many important things were left out... and they added a random scene... left out most of the end fight... it was butchered... i'm glad i went and i will see it again... and i imagine it was quite good for anyone who has no interest in the books... ok, i've said my piece... moving on...

kristin's quilt is almost done... here are the most recent pics...
the top will be done today... and then i will work on my borders for the honeycomb quilt... and then who knows.... big difference from the fabric in the previous post, eh? click, bye

today i am working on my friend kristin's quilt... i'm not 100% sure i love the pattern for the fabrics i have, but i think she will like the end result... i can't make it too big either... i'm somewhat limited... but hopefully i will be able to post an update pic soon... (crap, just remembered that my camera's battery died again... so, it might be a few days!!!)... kristin should be coming to visit on august 22 for my second annual camp reunion, so, i probably will quilt it myself... and after the baby quilt fiasco, i think i've learned some valuable lessons and might be able to do it... i'll keep you posted...

i was able to salvage and complete the crib quilt!!! i ended up seam ripping all afternoon yesterday to at least save the backing and batting, but the quilt top was ok, so i fixed it!!! here it is with the crib, ready to be passed on to the next family member who is starting a family...

i also have here an updated pic of kathy's country churning diamonds... the top is pieced and trimmed... since this pic was taken, i took out most of the "ruffles" around the edges... there isn't anything else i can do until i have the money to get it quilted...

next order of business: decide on a quilt pattern for kristin's quilt, and i think i have decided...

man, deadlines work great for me... so, here is another one: i will have kristin's quilt peiced (and photographed and posted) by next saturday... hold me to it...

it has been a most unproductive day!! oh well, all the kids are happy and busy... the house is a mess... the laundry needs doing... and overall, it has been a long and busy week... jeff is going to ny this weekend, so i will have a lot of down time...

i ruined the baby quilt today by trying to quilt it on my little machine... argh! i never really loved it anyway, so i will begin it again... in a few days... my back has been aching from all the hours i have put in at the sewing machine... so, i picked up harry potter 6 again to read before the movie comes out next week... i'll give myself a new deadline... finish the book and piece the top for the crib quilt for next tuesday... i'm pretty depressed about the whole thing... i'll keep you posted...

well, since my deadlines are going so well, i was able to cut and peice about half of aunt kathy's quilt yesterday!!! i made 96 half-square triangles! ugh!!! anyway, now the blocks need to be finished up and maybe i will have a picture by evening... i have a few extra kids here today, so i might not get it all done, but on the other hand they are totally keeping my girls busy, so i might get it done even more quickly!!! stay tuned for pics and updates!

here i am again...

this is a blossom from my double petalled hybiscus... just lovely... i nursed that plant for 4 years... when i first received it as a gift from my mom, it nearly died... lost all of its leaves and i had to cut it back to nearly nothing... but i kept it and finally this year, i have been greatly rewarded... it flowers all the time, sometimes multiple large flowers... it is beautiful...

i wasn't kidding when i said deadlines work for me... the crib quilt top is pieced and it isn't even 10am on monday morning!!! i'll have to go out later to get batting, so there is no more i can do on it now... if i could find my camera i would take a pic to post... hmmm, first i think i'll find some breakfast and then begin on aunt kathy's quilt top... i'll post pics later...

*update - Marina found the camera... here is the completed top for the crib quilt...

it is very simple and quite small, but i think it is just right for its intended crib... after i have it quilted and bound, i will post a pic of it with the crib... looking forward to having it completed...

which is why summer is not terribly productive for me... i have a few deadlines set... a birthday, a reunion, stuff like that... but, i need more motivation... i am trying to get the arena (sewing room/work-out room/ playroom) cleaned up so i can sew more efficiently... but it is taking forever... my stash of scraps is fighting me ever step of the way... it is so difficult for me to throw fabric away, even scraps as small as 1 inch by 1 inch get kept!!! so, i struggle...
there is a quilt show in augusta in a few weeks... tab and i are planning to go... very excited about that...
ok, for now, my deadline is 1:30... i want to work for the next 2 hours in the arena and have a space i can work in... then i have family bbq and a sleepover with my friend amy!!! that will be fun! happy fourth of july!!!!!

so, today i have an easy day at school.... mostly watching movies... but this week is kicking my butt... it is taking forever!!! i can't believe it isn't even 10:00 yet on wednesday!!! graduation was last night and it was so nice... the kids had fun, the speeches were good... the awarding of scholarships took ages, but who can complain about the kids receiving money for college... i'm looking forward to this weekend so i can relax and get some things done... i need to write my finals and grade a bunch of stuff... i should also sew!! i have fabric and a plan for aunt kathy's quilt now, so that is good...
i'm on the look out for the windham paperdoll fabric line... i would love to make doll quilts for the girls for christmas... the fabric is great... quilt divas had it but are almost out now...

i am up to 30 blocks for my crib quilt now... not sure if i will stop there... i added some pinks to even out the colors a bit... i still need to add some purple... and i need to collect the full names and birth dates of all the babies that have slept in the crib... that is all for tonight... it has been a very busy weekend... i accomplished a lot and have a ton left to do, alas, i must go to bed... goodnight.

well, i actually did some sewing... 55 minutes worth to be exact... i was able to complete 18 blocks for my "heirloom" crib quilt...

clearly, this is not the final layout... i'm not sure i like it yet... but maybe when i have more variety... any comments???

staying motivated...

that is the big challenge... i have been slacking on my blog for ages and so i am trying to get back on track... this weekend is so chock full of work and visiting and events... it is making me a bit crazy!!!

my garden is probably completely washed out... it has been raining for 4 days straight... ever since i planted it... keep your fingers crossed that something survives!!!

ok, so far, i haven't even touched a piece of fabric yet this weekend... tomorrow is totally booked and today is pretty much too... i just can't figure out how to get everything done that i want to get done... maybe if i didn't sleep at all.... maybe then... i just can't wait until summer... but then the apathy hits... gotta stay motivated... that is my new mantra... maybe some goals for myself...

*sew for at least 30 minutes everyday (most likely this will turn into several hours a day, but i have to get myself in front of the machine first)...
*put laundry away before beginning a new load...
*read at least 1 book a week for school (including planning and collecting materials- next year i have classes i have never taught before)
*declutter and thoroughly clean at least one room each week...

designing a quilt studio...

the next order of business... designing (and implementing) a quilt studio... jeff and i are saving up to finish the "arena" and make it a family room/quilt studio... it should be big enough for both... i hope to have a long arm quilting machine sometime in the next decade so, i'd like to figure out a floor plan that i like as well as some sort of organizational scheme to implement... our friend curtis will be helping us (i hope) make it all come to fruition... this is what i want:

a large countertop that can be used for cutting, ironing, and sewing...
blocky shelves for fabric organization
smaller units (possibly cd holders) for smaller cuts of fabric (fat quarters and whatnot)
a way to hang quilts that are either ready to quilt or already quilted...
a thread spool holder...
a permanent design wall...
storage area for batting/extra supplies...
a long arm quilting machine!!!!

well, well, well, if it isn't me... it has been a while and i need to get back on track... i have so many projects to complete this summer... i figure i can sort of keep my self motivated by posting what i am working on and what progress i've made... so, this is a list of the current projects i have in the works or on the drawing board.... here goes:

*a crib quilt to pass along with the bassinet that grandpa made (1930's fabric in a railfence pattern perhaps? i already have the fabric and backing...)

*a quilt for aunt kathy's birthday (aug. 1st) no fabric or pattern yet, but she likes country colors and traditional quilt patterns...

*a quilt for my friend kristin.... she is redoing her bedroom in blues and browns (a personal fave of mine) and she says, "bring on the funk!"... i have fabric but not sure of a pattern yet....

*a quilt for me made from bright batiks.... can't remember the name of the pattern, but i have all the fabric... lots of half square triangles...

*the honeycomb.... i have to add the borders and make my binding before i can have it quilted... but i finally have all the fabric, even the backing for that one!!!

*a one block wonder is on my design wall now... i have to finish piecing the top and add borders... that one is for me, so there is no rush, other than needed my design wall for other projects...
i also have fabric for an attic window and an asian quilt that are for me (i guess) but i haven't gotten around to...

*i just finished a snail trail for me.... i am so greedy with my quilts!!! i just love them!!!

so, that is what i have planned as far as quilting this summer... i also have planted a garden, bigger and a bit more adventurous than the last one i had... unfortunately, it has been pouring ever since i planted it 3 days ago.... so, hopefully, they don't drown and rot.... ugh!
i'm looking forward to a productive weekend and a speedy next three weeks... and then, summer!!!!

well, i must admit, i have become a huge fan of the twilight series... i read it through twice in about 2 weeks and loved every excrutiating minute of it... anyway, the premiere of the movie is today, but alas i will not be seeing it... not yet anyway... i'll keep you posted on that... times are hard right now and i'm having a difficult time sort of across the board, but we will persevere....

first off: i'm bummy... jeff has returned to ny and so i am sad to see him go... i even cried (a few times)...

secondly: i'm hot... the weather has been quite nice lately and so i am complaining that it is too darn hot... i do not handle heat well.... i like cool breezes off the ocean and snuggling under a quilt or five....

thirdly: one of the coolest things i have ever planned will occur this weekend.... i am hosting a camp reunion for all the folks from china lake that have gotten older but not yet grown up... the plan is this... a bunch of old friends arrive around 1 on saturday... we visit, we play cards, we attempt to set up volleyball net... we eat bbq and play more cards... we take 1000 pictures to post online making all the people who couldn't come feel badly.... anyone who wants to spend the night can and should... we have room (basically)... i am anticipating somewhere around 15 people (or more) which is approximately the same number of people we have for football games every week... so, it should be manageable and if more people come all the better, we can certainly expand our party out onto the lawn and into the dojo... and more cards and food on sunday...

summertime blues...

pink and brown roman stripes, finally done... this one is a double irish chain that has been in the works for 2 years, finally quilted and bound... yay!

well, it has been ages since i deigned to post anything about my life... i have the summertime blues... my hubby has moved away to ny while the girls and i stay in maine and fend for ourselves... we will be moving to ny likely at the end of the school year... maine never quite fit for jeff although for me it feels like the only fit there is... but i will try a new place and see how it goes... i miss jeff a lot!
other than that, me biggest concern is a general lack of motivation... i have quilts to make, cleaning to do, and organizing to conquer... i have clutter to heave, dust to re-disperse, and crumbs to vacuum... i have books that will not read themselves!!!! in short, i have tons to do and tons of time and yet i spend tons of time sitting on my butt watching spongebob and my new favorite, icarly....
the past few days have been better... i finished a quilt for my grandmother's 90th birthday a few days ago.... i started a new mermaid quilt and even worked on my honeycomb quilt... i put out the trash, collected the mail, and even folded some laundry...
it is official, summer makes me lazy.... for motivation i have decided to concentrate on the fact that i now have less than one month left... and instead of doing the dishes, wiping the table, mopping the floor, and throwing away my kids' toys, i am here writing to you about it!!! argh...

i have several projects that i am just about to complete, working on, or just beginning.... i am doing a demo demonstration speech on monday for one of my classes and having some pictures taken of my quilts.... hopefully i will be able to post them and keep this blog updated (my last post before today was september 11th (i think) 2007....

it is snowing here today, but i am hoping to get over to karen's to work on a quilt... i am excited for monday... somehow it feels like i am having an art exhibit....

i have a ton to do this weekend... hundreds of papers to grade, house cleaning (lots of it), sewing, laundry, planning, worrying about jeff who supposedly will be driving home from ny today during this huge snow storm...

the girls are being great, watching movies we borrowed from karen and so i should take this time to clean the kitchen.... i'm off....

well, this is almost the end of a great summer... it has had its ups and downs since i am always dealing with a few struggles that never go away (except to new york for the weekend)... anyway, i am looking forward to getting back to work and at the same time stressing about it... i still have a million things i want to do that i never really got around to... that i may never get around to... i did have some great times, two quilt shows with karen, bbqs, seeing my grandmother and aunt for the first time in a few years, making quilts, harry potter movie at midnight, reading the last harry potter book, playing cards and laughing like crazy women with tab and steph, etc, etc.... and there are things i am totally excited about.... seeing my students again (there is nothing like the energy in the halls of the highschool), my new computer, laptop, and rolly chair at school, last block as my planning block, being out of the house will be nice too... it is a bit stifling here sometimes.... i'm not sure how we are going to establish a good routine that works around here this year... jeff's schedule is strange and we just have one car... marina will be in school and cadence will be in daycare....

These are some of the quilts from last year.... i just found a klimt kiss quilt that was submitted for judging last year... how disappointing... it was done by a woman in camden right down the road from here.... it looks like it received honorable mention.... i'm bummed. well, at least mine is twice as big... and mine is more "based on" than this one...

oops, i started writing this post to let everyone know what a fantastic time i had at the quilt show, and then got majorly distracted by the kiss quilt that someone else made.... anyway, it was awesome... we looked at all the quilts on display and looked at all the shops.... we even looked at an "art bra" display which was hysterical and saw antique quilts that were very interesting.... and the lady there to answer our questions was insightful... ;) anyway, it was a great day! Harry Potter 7

It is based on Gustav Klimt's The Kiss (I hope that is obvious...). I am trying all types of new techniques for this quilt; it is like nothing i have ever tried before... none of the detail is done yet and that will make a huge difference, but i'm psyched about the project so far! drop a comment...
UPDATE: even since i posted this 5 minutes ago, i have made changes... her face and feet are smaller... putting them next to each other makes a big difference in how i see them... weird.

Well, I have strep throat again, and we brought Bruschi to the humane society (Sunday late afternoon). She was already adopted by noon today (Tuesday). I was just too stressed and we were not able to give her the attention she needed. I have been very sick. But I am on antibiotics and hopefully will be back at school soon. I am thrilled to death that Gilmore Girls is on tonight and can't wait to see this episode! I'm all a-tingle. I am also so looking forward to the last Harry Potter book coming out on July 21st. I will be one of those obsessed fans waiting outside the store when it opens (or even one of the midnight marauders)! My IQ on Tickle was 135; that is 6 points higher than Jeff's! Yay!

well, things are going very well around here... jeff started his security job at the hospital and i think he is going to like it... he looks cute in his uniform.... but the really good thing is the pats won against the chargers this past weekend, and the game was incredible!!! jump off the couch screaming at the top of our lungs incredible.... and now we play peyton manning in another playoff game.... I'm so excited!!!!!!! sunday at 6:30pm cannot come soon enough....
in other news... all of my finals are made and copied and ready... i have one more day to get through before finals... and then i have two days of finals and then next semester starts with all new kids (well, some i've had before) and all new classes (well, i've taught the courses before) but i'm looking forward to it immensely.... and tonight is Gilmore Girls... and even though it is a repeat, that is ok.... new ones start next week.... my life is so good!

hello, we turned the clocks back last night and today has lasted forever... it is only 8 and i have wanted to go to bed for hours!!! we started talking about putting the kids to bed at 5! well, i guess it is good since i can go to bed early tonight.... it has been dark for like 5 hours already (i know that can't be, but it seems like it).. and the pats didn't even play today, they play tomorrow night.... i got a ton done today... the hubby and i cleaned for a few hours this morning, and i went to school and did about 4 hours of work... then while we watched the games i did laundry... and the bathrooms, at least partly.... so, it has been a great weekend... i am looking forward to next weekend already though, is that bad??? oh, and halloween is tuesday... hmmm, gotta get some candy and some costumes.... lots to do tomorrow....

So, I was all set with the camera to go take the pics of the quilt and the orchids... and then the girls needed a bath, the puppy needed to go out, puppy needed to eat, puppy needed to go back out, girls needed to go to bed, sierra needed a ride home, puppy needed to go out and here we are.... gilmore girls is on, so there is no way in heck i will be taking pictures to post tonight.
apparently, there is at least one person reading this blog so i'll give an update.... we did get 95% of the laundry put away and did the upstairs vaccuming....
so, there, amazingly between bringing the puppy out to pee we actually got something done.

a few other things have happened in 10 months.... jeff and i hit 5 years on october 7th... i received my blue belt in kenpo....
my favorite shows right now are gilmore girls of course, supernatural, one tree hill, and interestingly enough america's next top model.... i get a sick pleasure from watching those 6 foot gorgeous skinny women make fools of themselves and get their dreams crushed.... what can i say? hahah
cadence is now 2, no longer a baby, and marina is 4 and a half.... almost ready for school...
i received an acceptable on my W.O.M.B.A.T. grade one, and exceeds expectations on my W.O.M.B.A.T. grade two. If you don't know what that is, never mind...

well, it has been almost10 months or something since my last post... i am now mostly settled in the new house... i am in my second semester of teaching, and i have a new puppy, named bruschi, that is like tedy bruschi, not as in hand me a brewsky... he is very cute, but all poop and nipping.... can't wait till he is housetrained and no longer teething... he is a mut, collie, shepherd, lab mix....
things have been greatly improving on the whole quilting scene... i have taken over my hubby's "arena" and made it a quilting studio.... i have gotten some great helpful hints and new patterns from a friend... the local quilting store (1 minute from here) is going out of business in 2 weeks and is selling everything off at 60% off!!! i am working on a "scrappy" log cabin, 36 squares... and just finishing up a double irish chain... before i mainly did patchwork squares... pretty but no real quilting really went into it.... so, i'm having fun with that....
i have now grown my orchid collection from just 1 to 7, i think... only two are flowering right now, but i hope they start again soon... all of them are getting new leaves so i know they are healthy...
the pats are looking good this season...
i love netflix...
maybe i'll post again in less than 10 months.....

well, i have made it through a week and two days of teaching and i love it... the faculty members are so nice and helpful, the kids are great, and i am having a blast... the new dojo opened yesterday and classes are going well.... the dojo looks so beautiful.... we are really doing great on all fronts... i have a million things to do so i suppose i will go do them...
just as a footnote, i sure am glad i don't need a friend who knows about computers to help me get rid of stoky.net on my blogroll... i figured it out all by myself...

i haven't posted in almost a week, sorry about that!!! i have had a lot going on... let's see, what shall i report?
bummer of all bummers, the pats lost on saturday night! they played badly and denver definitely did not beat them, the pats beat themselves...we had another party and we had a great time, until we lost... jeff and i watched a couple of good games today... indy and the steelers... my two most hated teams... but the steelers won and they are the lesser of two evils in my eyes.... and then we watched the bears and the panthers, and i think the panthers won, but it is 4am and i didn't care much about the game, so who really knows???
i had 30 things on my to do list for today, but then i realized that it is martin luther king jr day and the schools are closed, and maybe the post office and the bank too!!! sheesh, so now my list is down to one thing, cleaning... well, a few things... anyway, i want to have my house and life in order as much as possible by the time i start teaching so that i can concentrate on that... oh who am i trying to kid, i have two little kids and a crazy husband, i am lucky if i make it out the door with matching shoes on.... by the way, i can't wait... i am so excited for the new job!!!!!!
i also need to go to the reading corner (mary went there)...
i should be getting my new glasses any day this week too!!! first new frames since 94, my god, that is 12 years ago.... they are cute and a little funky... (just like me) and i'm back to wearing contacts too, at least part time... hallelujah, hallelujah, etc., etc.

Updates and oh my gosh

well, the inside of the dojo is painted, the front is sided, and the word on the street is that it will be done by the end of the week, although i don't believe it... tonight i have been working on revamping my philosophy of education and expectations for the classroom, because OH MY GOSH, my interview is tomorrow!!! what a wild and crazy 6 months it has been.... i really hope i get this job, but if i do, it means almost everything that could have been upheaved (?) in my life has been upheaved (?)... it is quite overwhelming actually. my stable little life is all in a tailspin!! a good tailspin though, because all the changes so far have been positive...
well, i have decided to post one new years resolution (not that i made any, but if i had) i'm going to get back to my martial arts training... since i have been working nights, i haven't really been able to get to class, but seeing as how my husband is the instructor and soon i won't have to leave the house to attend class, i really have no excuse not to go... also, hopefully, i won't be working nights anymore!!! cross your fingers for me....
i actually have a ton of work to do and "studying" for my interview, i will sign off for now...

Tom Brady and the New England Patriots do it again... They continue their undefeated post-season record at 10-0 with a great game, beating the jaguars 28-3 and breaking the record for the longest streak of undefeated post season games. we had a great time last night, fun party, good friends, good food, incredible game!!! oh yeah and they broke a bunch of other records too, cause that is what they do.... go pats.... can't wait till next week... anyway, i'll post more later...

well, i am here at work and i am exhausted... there is absolutely no way i will make it through the night without sleeping... unfortunately, we had two clients discharged today and two new clients admitted which equals a humungous amount of work for me to accomplish tonight... on the other hand, my boss is out of the office until tuesday, so anything i don't get around to tonight, i could probably do sunday night and it won't matter....
we are having a big football play-offs party on saturday night... that will be fun... god-willing, tom brady will contiue his amazing undefeated play-offs record... got to sleep... got to

sorry i haven't posted in a while... i guess not a lot has been happening... or consider this, maybe a lot has been happening and it is too good to post on the internet for all to read, or maybe just nothing is happening.... the dojo is getting sided, so that is good, but our general contractor (my stepdad) is out of town for my great aunt's funeral, so going is slow... my great aunt helen was 90 and went quietly in her sleep... so although it is sad, she had a good long life and then peacefully went home...
i guess the new year is going well so far... i didn't officially make any resolutions and if i did, which i didn't, but if i did, i wouldn't post them here, because resolutions, although meant well, are often abandoned or failed by january week 2 and that is like two days from now and i hate to admit defeat, so....
i'm adding a few pics... hope you enjoy.

so, the floor/mats for the dojo arrived today and the flooring for the bathroom/changing room as well.... the sheetrock should be sprayed out white tomorrow... and then we are pretty much down to details... this is good, very good...
i'm bummed because jeff will be out of town this weekend and so i am bringing in the new year sad and lonely, probably watching the giants and rooting for the raiders (sorry jason)... i have an exciting weekend planned of cleaning, picking up, laundry, unpacking, and cleaning (and vacuuming and dusting and sweeping and maybe even a little painting, and cleaning)... and maybe some cooking... i haven't made beef stew in a few months.. that is good comfort food and i can make a large pot and have it for a few days...
on an unrelated but equally as unimportant topic, i am loving my hair these days.... it is getting long and seems fuller and for whatever reason has waves in it now.... loving it!
just thought i'd also let everyone know that i am smart and well-liked, at least by the people who wrote my letters of recommendation for me to be a teacher someday... of course i didn't ask the people who think i am dumb and hated to write any of my letters.... that would have been silly.
i had a couple of days when i was feeling kinda down in the dumps, but i am so on my way back up... things are great and i have good hair... what else is there???? well? well?

and with a flip of her (great) hair she was gone....
